Description :

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing and Collections Specialist to join our Billing team. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of the billing cycle, including posting electronic and patient payments, billing for physician services and surgeries, addressing patient inquiries, and overseeing collections. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of medical billing procedures, and experience with claim follow-up and accounts receivable

Key Responsibilities :

  • Payment Posting :

Post electronic payments (EOBs / ERAs) from insurance carriers promptly and accurately.

  • Post patient payments from various sources including checks, credit card transactions, and online portals.
  • Billing :
  • Bill daily physician charges and surgical procedures in a timely manner.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of billing codes and modifiers.
  • Submit claims electronically and / or by paper as needed.
  • Patient Account Management :
  • Address patient inquiries regarding billing statements, insurance coverage, and balances.

  • Provide outstanding customer service and resolve patient issues professionally.
  • Collections Oversight :
  • Monitor and report on monthly collection trends and outcomes.

  • Review and manage delinquent patient accounts.
  • Submit qualifying accounts to the collection agency and maintain communication for updates.
  • Contact patients regarding outstanding balances and set up payment plans
  • Accounts Receivable (AR) :
  • Work assigned AR accounts to reduce outstanding balances.

  • Follow up on denied, unpaid, or underpaid claims.
  • Investigate and correct claim errors and resubmit when necessary.
  • Administrative Duties :
  • Process and reconcile daily mail related to billing and payments.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of all billing, payment, and collection activity.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure billing accuracy and efficiency.
  • Requirements :

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in Medical Billing / Coding preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and collections (Orthopedic experience is a plus).
  • Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding, and insurance guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of billing compliance and HIPAA regulations.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of eClinical works a plus
