The Manager of Employer Development and Experiential Education will foster student engagement by promoting and facilitating participation in experiential learning opportunities, internships, cooperative education programs, service learning, research, and other high-impact practices. This position will facilitate, enhance, and expand experiential education initiatives for the university, aligning them with the overarching goals and mission of the institution. This role will collaborate with faculty, staff and external partners to design, develop, and implement experiential learning programs that provide students with meaningful hands-on, real-world experiences relevant to their career goals.

Primary Duties :

  • Manage internship, co-operative education, and other high-impact experiential learning programming for the University of South Carolina. Serve as primary administrator for the Internship Program and the internship funding program for the University.
  • Establish relationships with recruiters and employers; assist them with designing and implementing strategies for developing shadowing programs, externships, internships and co-ops.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic departments and offices across campus to understand unique internship program needs.

  • Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelors degree in a job related field and 4 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and / or experience.
  • Required Certification, Licensure / Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred applicants will have previous experience in career services, developing employer / corporate relationships, or managing experiential learning / internship initiatives.

  • Job Duties Job Duty EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM MANAGEMENT : Manage internship, co-operative education, and other high-impact experiential learning programming for the University of South Carolina. Serve as primary administrator for the South Carolina Internship Program, the internship funding program for the University of South Carolina System. Develop collaborative, sustainable projects with campus partners related to experiential education. Map or connect experiential learning opportunities to academic curriculum and develop educational content through experiential learning workshops. Offer guidance and support to students seeking experiential learning opportunities. Adopt and manage technology tools necessary for successful implementation of programs and initiatives. Confer with the Office of Risk Management and Legal Counsel on policies, procedures, and practices. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 30 Job Duty EMPLOYER RELATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT : Establish relationships with recruiters and employers; assist them with designing and implementing strategies for developing shadowing programs, externships, internships and co-ops, etc. Evaluate and approve positions for participation in the programs based on the quality of the learning experience available to students. Consult with potential employers / recruiters on the development of programs and positions, as well as strategies for outreach and engagement. Provide guidance and support resources, as appropriate, to employers and recruiters. Develop employer leads by scheduling and facilitating in person and virtual consultations with target employers across all industries, educate them about USCs talent pipeline and assist them in the development of recruitment strategies on campus. Represent the University with external constituents at employer sites, trade shows or professional association conferences, industry events, and Chamber of Commerce events. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 30 Job Duty CAMPUS COLLABORATION AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT : Develop and maintain relationships with academic departments and offices across campus to understand unique internship, co-op, etc. needs. Develop and manage campus relationships, which are critical to achieving program goals. Provide oversight and direction to campus colleagues related to experiential learning. Develop and maintain initiatives to promote standardized best practices across campus. Provide training and support to faculty and staff on best practices in experiential education and high-impact practices, promoting a unified approach across the institution.

    Coordinate annual Internship Forum to support training and development of campus partners in best practices around internships and experiential education. Coordinate with office, unit, university, and division communications teams to develop a wide variety of marketing collateral to promote experiential education programs. Develop marketing tool-kits and solicit the assistance of colleagues in other functional areas to promote experiential education opportunities to students. Identify student success stories for promotional materials, videos, etc. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION : Collect and analyze data (qualitative and quantitative) to assess the effectiveness and impact of internships, co-ops, and other experiential learning initiatives. Prepare reports for university leadership on outcomes. Stay abreast of current research, literature and trends related to experiential learning, industry, career services and higher education. Benchmark and adopt leading and best practices in experiential education. Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure the impact of experiential education initiatives on student learning, progression, and career readiness. Use data to continuously improve program effectiveness. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 15 Job Duty OTHER : Oversee designated projects or initiatives related to experiential education, employer relations, or the Career Center. Provide assistance and support for initiatives and programs within the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support, specifically the Student Success Unit, and the broader institution. Offer support for various activities, including committee participation, professional development, move-in, Orientation, Admissions events, Family Weekend, and other special projects as requested.
