Job Title : Recreation Maintenance Worker

The purpose of this job is to perform skilled / manual work functions in City park and recreation areas. Incumbents in this class will be responsible for the maintenance using chemical spray equipment, power tools, and various other field equipment. Works with a variety of hand tools and small machinery such as a tractor, edger, aerator, box blade, irrigation equipment, ball field lining equipment, pressure washer, etc. This position typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following : sod cutting and installation, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, athletic field maintenance, field irrigation systems installation and repair, painting and power washing and completing logs or routine records. The employee may drive a vehicle to sites as needed. The employee will be required to work indoors and outdoors, year-round in all types of weather conditions. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.

Essential Job Functions :

• Have an understanding of fertilizer and pesticide rate mathematics
• Accurately calibrate fertilizer spreaders for different fertilizer applications
• Accurately calibrate, clean, and troubleshoot spray equipment
• Spraying of athletic fields and common areas without overlaps or missed streaks
• Maintain an organized and accurate spray and fertilizer record book
• Operates vehicles such as trucks to haul people or material to job sites.
• Loads and unloads materials such as gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipment.
• Maintains outdoor areas by cutting grass, pruning trees and bushes, raking leaves and debris, installing landscape material, and other maintenance tasks.
• Maintains athletic fields and recreation facilities maintenance including, baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields by mowing, grooming, leveling, raking, weeding, etc.
• Performs maintenance functions such as repairing irrigation, greasing equipment, motors, and shafts, and replacing valves, checking fluid levels, changing blades; performs light repairs and installations as directed.
• Performs janitorial and custodial maintenance of recreational facilities grounds and buildings : to include restroom maintenance and trash disposal.
• Prepares set up for a variety of events.
• Maintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting and minor repairs.
• Assists the public by answering questions and providing routine information.
• Performs clerical tasks such as completing state required online record keeping, work orders or maintaining logs.
• Compares or inspects items against a standard.
• Follows instructions and orders of supervisor.
