POSITION SUMMARY : The Registered Dietitian Assistant’s primary responsibilities include, but not limited to, documenting medical, food, and nutrition-related date into the medical record, developing and implementing nutritional interventions / plan of care that meet professional standards of practice, reflect current evidence-based practices, and are in full compliance for all applicable regulatory statures. Accurately completes MDS assessments as directed by the Registered Dietitian. Assists with updating tray tickets, diet changes, and participates in the IDT CarePlan and at-risk meetings. Monitors meal and supplement intake to evaluate the resident’s acceptance and progress towards nutritional goals. Provides oversight to the culinary departments to assigned territory to ensure regulatory standards are being met as relates to sanitation, food handling, menu compliance and dining services. Travel between assigned facilities is essential.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates expertise in clinical nutrition, preferably in geriatric and rehabilitation care practices in the skilled nursing environment.
Possesses the ability to apply critical thinking to a variety of situations, assess objectives, develop and implement and monitor effective plans for improvement.
Working knowledge of computer and software applications used to perform job responsibilities.
Ability to work independently, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive feedback.
Effectively lead and support Culinary CTMs
Monitors and provides guidance to the Director of Nutrition and Food Service regarding appropriate preparation and delivery of regular and therapeutic diets.
Provide a written record of recommendations for changes in nutrition care, including recommendations to physicians, recommendations for nursing care, and changes in the meal plan, as identified in the medical record, to nursing management and the Executive Director.
Conducts regular meal observations and interviews staff and residents to ensure that all residents are receiving food in the amount, type, consistency, and frequency to maintain adequate nutritional parameters
Collaborates with Registered Dietitian timely to requests for information and suggestions to improve quality of Culinary Services.
Conduct routine auditing and sanitation reviews of culinary department to ensure that regulated standards are being met
Maintain appropriate documentation in resident medical records; participate in care planning.
Monitors laboratory data to identify abnormal data that may indicate a change in metabolic status, nutrition status or hydration status.
Monitors all residents for changes in weight weekly and / or monthly to identify potential changes in nutrition or hydration status.
Based on the comprehensive assessment, identifies the nutrition interventions that are incorporated into the individualized interdisciplinary plan of care for each resident, and ensures that information is appropriately entered.
Maintain effective relationships with residents and families, medical care team member and with all care team members in the community.
Provides education and / or guidance to residents and families regarding current nutrition status, nutrition care recommendation, available treatment options, and anticipated course of care.
Attend professional meetings and conferences to keep abreast of current practices and trends in the field of nutrition and dietetics; present education programs to other care team member, as required.
Ensure safe work and sanitary procedures are developed and followed, to include those relating to care team members injuries, prevention, prevention of foodborne illness, and infection control.
Ensure a Continuous Quality Control Improvement Program is in place and that appropriate follow-up occurs.
Perform other tasks as assigned and within scope of practice.

This position requires for the care team member to be able to perform and complete each essential duty satisfactorily.
This position requires for the care team member to be able to read, write, have excellent communication skills, and understand the spoken English language to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
This position requires for the care team member to be able to reach (overhead), stand, walk, sit, pull, lift, carry, push, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and twist.
This position requires for the care team member to be knowledgeable of infection control techniques.
This position requires for the care team member to be knowledgeable of commercial food service equipment operation.
This position requires for the care team member to possess basic computer skills.
Complies with applicable legal requirements, standard, policies and procedures including but not limited to those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct and HIPAA.
Provides leadership and support for the Compliance Process within management area.
Promotes adherence to applicable legal requirements, standards, policies and procedures and as specified within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, Federal False Claims Act and HIPAA within management area.
Distributes compliance-related materials within management area.
Provides open lines of communication regarding compliance issues within management area. Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance to facility management.
Participates in monitoring and auditing activities and investigations, and implementing quality improvement processes, as required.
Licensures or Certification Requirements
Associates or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent or actively pursuing a degree in a healthcare field, preferably nutrition / dietetics related. Active Dietetic Technician Registration (DTR), or Active CDM certification will be considered and must include additional practitioner certificate in nutritional care, or completion within 90 days of hire.
One (1) to three (3) years of clinical documentation experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
Possess strong knowledge base of all applicable local, state and federal regulatory statues and guidelines pertaining to food service and healthcare in the skilled nursing setting.
