Automation Engineer

As an Automation Engineer, you will be instrumental in the start-up of microprocessor-based control components, ensuring seamless operation of PLCs, DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, and transducers. Your role involves meticulous point-to-point wiring and component checks, setup and calibration of input / output devices, and the configuration of IP networks. You will also create and troubleshoot automation networks and communication protocols, manage complex HVAC and electrical automation systems, and develop automation system graphics and dashboards for SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

  • Start up and calibrate microprocessor-based control components such as PLCs and DDC controllers.
  • Conduct point-to-point wiring and component checks for grounding, polarity, communication, and power.
  • Set up and calibrate temperature sensors and pressure transducers.
  • Upload, download, and modify control software and programs.
  • Configure IP networks, including Stratix and Cisco switches.
  • Create and troubleshoot automation networks and communication protocols.
  • Troubleshoot complex HVAC and electrical automation systems, including psychometrics and refrigeration.
  • Map control points into supervisory controllers and graphical front ends.
  • Create automation system graphics and dashboards for SCADA systems.
  • Interpret Sequence Of Operations (SOO) and apply to program logic.
  • Read and write code using IEC-3, including ladder logic and structured text.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, train, and delegate tasks to Automation Technicians and Engineers.
  • Assist with Tier III Business Development and development of Core Process and Standards.
  • Travel to job sites for programming and troubleshooting.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in automation and engineering.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet and serial network communication formats.
  • Understanding of basic process controls, including PID control loops.
  • Familiarity with construction site safety and awareness of surroundings.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic multimeters, Magnehelic gauges, and RS-485 / RS-232 Serial Adapters.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and light power tools.
  • Experience with product manufacturer software and construction management software like BIM 360.
  • Competency in Windows, Linux, and command line computer systems.
  • Work Environment

    This role involves working at a Data Center in North KC until the end of 2026, with 50% travel expected following the current project. The work environment fosters a great culture and offers competitive benefits as part of an ESOP company.

    This is a Permanent position based out of Kansas City, Missouri.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $83200.00 / yr.
