Position Summary
This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.
Perform technical work in chemical, biological, environmental, or engineering aspects of scientific and / or technical activities in the Air Pollution field.Pay Grade : 48Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications1. Two (2) years of technical employment in public health, environmental consulting, or environmental work; AND2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental health, environmental science, natural science, or a related field; OR3. An equivalent combination of related education and / or experience.4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND / OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities1. Develops and completes permits for air pollution stationary sources in Shelby County.2. Inspects and prepares inspection reports for all assigned sources.3. Observes stack tests and are aware of EPA test methods.4. Investigates air pollution complaints and recommends solutions. 5. Evaluates applicability of federal and state laws, and local air pollution codes and regulations.6. Answers questions concerning specific sources, air pollution regulations, complaints, and air pollution emissions.7. Develop documents, enter data, and calculate emissions, and reference documents include AP-42, Air Chief, and Tanks program.8. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs1. Knowledge of technical terminology in air pollution and related environmental fields.2. Ability to interpret environmental rules and regulations.3. Ability to prepare, review, and edit documents, including air pollution permits, enforcement actions, and inspection reports.4. Ability to work independently and organize assigned tasks.5. Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other County software applications.
Special Requirements1. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment.2. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon the date of employment.3. Must be able to travel within Shelby County as required.4. Must be able to receive visible emissions certification to perform and observe EPA Method 9 and TVEE testing within six months from the date of hire.5. Must maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout the duration of employment.
Physical Requirements1. Must be able to climb ladders / scaffolding, access rooftops, and carry up to 60 lbs.2. Must be able to work in all types of weather.3. Must successfully pass a physical assessment.
