The Divisional Controller manages and oversees the finances for a specific division or business unit within a larger organization, handling tasks like budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, managing accounts payable and receivable, ensuring internal controls are in place, and providing financial insights to senior management to support strategic decision-making. This role ensures all financial operations within the division are accurate, efficient, and comply with company policies and regulations. This role also provides financial reporting monthly, conducts financial analysis to ensure data is clear and accurate and supports the business in finding trends or opportunities to create forward actions within the business.

Key responsibilities for the Divisional Controller :

  • Ensure timely and accurate production of :

Financial and operational reports and analysis

  • Annual capital and operational budgets
  • Reports and analysis required for audits
  • Accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, job costing transactions and reports
  • Manage and control financial accounts, ledgers, and corresponding reports
  • Collaborate with internal departments and supervisors / managers to ensure that overall Finance needs are met or exceeded
  • Consistently apply resources to cost control and reduction
  • Identify, recommend, and implement areas for improvement
  • The ideal candidate must demonstrate :

  • Accounting Knowledge : GAAP policies and procedures, federal and state financial regulations
  • Analytical skills : Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Communication skills : Ability to communicate complex data and insights in a clear and concise manner.
  • Problem-solving skills : Ability to identify problems and develop data-driven solutions within and beyond current perspective.
  • Software proficiency : Proficiency in relevant accounting and finance software and tools.
  • Education, Skills, and Experience :

  • Required : 4 Year degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Preferred : 5 Years’ experience in professional accounting
  • Preferred : Experience with Lean Manufacturing and ISO / BRC quality systems
  • A minimal amount of travel to another Smyth location in Minnesota may be required
