About the Department and / or College

Upward Bound (UB) is a U.S. Department of Education-funded program designed to enhance the academic skills and motivation of high school students from low-income families or those who could be the first in their families to attend college. It offers instruction in math, science, writing, literature, and foreign languages, alongside various activities and services to prepare students for college success. Upward Bound is dedicated to providing comprehensive college preparatory services to ensure all participants achieve their goal of earning a college degree.

Major / Essential Functions

• Lead, manage, and advise a caseload of student advisees for continuous and ongoing advising to TRIO Upward Bound participants regarding course completion, financial literacy, financial aid, career exploration, college & university enrollment, and other academic, social, personal, and cultural support.
• Plan, organize, and implement student-centered and family programming and events in culturally responsive ways to potential first-generation college students, low-income populations related to summer bridge experience, academic skill development, college exploration and enrollment, financial aid, financial literacy, career planning and exploration, goal setting, time management, self-advocacy, study skills, and other academic, social, and emotional needs to promote the high school completion, postsecondary enrollment and success of TRIO UB participants as well as collaborate with university partners to advance grant goals and objectives, including other TRIO and Campus Access and Engagement units.
• Identifies, recruits, and markets the TTU TRIO Upward Bound Program to prospective high school students and current high school students who meet eligibility requirements. Duties include but not limited to creating and designing marketing materials and presentations, planning and hosting recruitment events, meeting with educational and community partners, meeting with students and families, engaging in tabling events, develop and process applications, follow up on incomplete applications, screening and interviewing students and their parent(s) / guardian(s), and finding other outreach methods to meet program participant goals.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records using TTU and TRIO Upward Bound retention software as required by law, university, state, and federal policies and regulations. Maintain a working knowledge of Federal TRIO programs / grant policies, procedures, reporting and university policies, and other areas impacting grant objectives to sustain a quality management philosophy in serving TRIO-eligible students. Adhere to university and grant fiscal policies and procedures ensuring accuracy and compliance with policy and guidelines at the university and as requirements of the grant. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and yearly leadership reports required by the department, division, and federal agency. • Assist with hiring, training, and supervising tutors / student assistants. Manage the respective day-to-day operations associated with supervision and management of the student staff.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
