Title : Poultry Breeder Operations Coordinator

Location : Cordova, TN

Reports to : General Manager

PRIMARY PURPOSE & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY :

As the primary coordinator for all breeder farms in Tennessee, Missouri, and California, this pivotal role is responsible for driving consistency in flock management, optimizing genetic performance, maximizing fertile egg production, and ensuring seamless communication across our breeder network. This position is focused on meticulous planning, diligent oversight, and proactive problem-solving to ensure the optimal performance and growth of our breeder flocks.

  • Ensuring consistent flock management practices and production outcomes across all breeder contract farms.
  • Cost control and budgeting
  • Ensuring high biosecurity and bird health protocols are followed
  • Optimizing genetic performance and production cycles through strategic scheduling and program guidance.
  • Maintaining strong communication and collaborative relationships with contract growers and internal teams.
  • Aligning egg production with sales demand and supporting company growth initiatives.
  • Delivering highly fertile eggs to our hatcheries

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Following is an overview of key responsibilities the Poultry Breeder Operations Coordinator is expected to fulfill :

Breeder Farm Oversight & Consistency

  • Oversee all aspects of breeder farms, ensuring adherence to Metzer Farms' standards for flock management practices and production outcomes across all locations.
  • Develop and foster strong working relationships with growers, providing support and guidance.
  • Strategic Flock Scheduling & Planning

  • Develop, implement, and manage a multi-year master flock schedule for all breeder operations, optimizing for market demand.
  • Proactively plan for future flock needs, supporting Metzer Farms’ strategic growth objectives and long-term business strategy.
  • Performance Monitoring & Improvement

  • Continuously monitor flock health, fertility rates, egg production metrics, and associated operational expenses to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Track and accurately report weekly egg production data.
  • Work with farmers in solving aberrations in egg production, fertility or health
  • Collaborate closely with the sales team to ensure production aligns precisely with evolving market demand.
  • Farm Visits & Support

  • Conduct essential farm visits as needed, maintaining a minimum of monthly visits to each breeder farm in Tennessee and Missouri.
  • Travel occasionally to California breeder farms as required.
  • Genetic Program Guidance

  • Establish and provide guidance for a robust genetic selection program, specifically focused on enhancing egg production traits and overall flock efficiency.
  • Ensure all our breeders meet breed standards and increase the show quality of our breeders without sacrificing production or fertility
  • Eliminate Salmonella

  • Monitor Salmonella in all breeder flocks
  • Ensure a Salmonella vaccination schedule is followed by all farmers
  • Work closely with the company veterinarian in all health issues.
  • Increase Performance of All Breeder Flocks

  • Constantly look for new and innovative ways to increase hatching egg production and fertility
  • Experiment with new methods of production
  • Monitor the entire poultry industry to find ways to increase the productivity of our breeder flocks
  • EXPERIENCE :

    The ideal candidate will have a strong background or passionate interest in poultry management, coupled with proven organizational and communication skills. Key qualifications include :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, or Genetics strongly preferred; or equivalent practical experience with demonstrated success.
  • Strong background or passionate interest in poultry genetics and breeding principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize long-term schedules, manage complex data sets, and maintain meticulous records.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, essential for effective collaboration with growers, various internal teams, and company leadership.
  • COMPENSATION :

    Competitive salary ($60,000 - $75,000 per year). Quarterly bonus opportunity based on profitability. Access to a company vehicle for all work-related travel. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval.

    Work Schedule : Full-time, exempt. Generally scheduled Monday–Friday, with occasional weekends and some holidays for special programming, events, or training. This position includes shared on-call responsibilities to support hatchery operations outside of normal hours.
