PCU RN Job Details – Wilmington, NC
Location : Wilmington, NC 28401 (North Carolina nursing jobs)
Unit : Cardiac Telemetry / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Assignment Type : Travel Nurse Contract
Start Date : December 15, 2025
End Date : March 16, 2026
Duration : 13 weeks (option to extend up to 26 weeks)
Shift : Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts / week (18 : 45 - 07 : 15)
Hours per Week : 36
Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $1700-$1750
Patient Ratios : 1 : 4 (surgical step down), 1 : 5-6 (lower acuity)
Weekend Requirement : 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks (flexible)
Unit Orientation : 24 hours
Scrubs : Navy
PCU Registered Nurse Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of recent cardiac floor or progressive care nursing experience
Active North Carolina or Compact RN license (required by start date)
BLS & ACLS certifications (AHA required)
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Clinical proficiency in cardiac telemetry, PCU / DOU / IMC / Stepdown care, sheath removal, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, pre / post cardiac cath, and cardiac drip management (including titration)
Experience with chest tubes (Emerson / Pleuravac), external CPAP / BIPAP, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Epic charting experience preferred
Ability to float to other hospital units as needed
Strong communication and teamwork skills
PCU Nurse Responsibilities
Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac and vascular conditions
Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage cardiac drips, and respond to changes in patient status
Care for patients post-cardiac surgery and procedures (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, Watchman, VATS, and more)
Perform sheath management and removal, wound care, and assist with specialized equipment (arterial lines, Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires)
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
Document patient care accurately using EPIC and follow SBAR communication protocols
Participate in unit rotation and float as required (not first to float)
Be prepared to work as part of the Storm Team / Hurricane Team during catastrophic events or disasters
