Overview
A Mobile Technician diagnoses and maintains tractor operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; and keeping records. The Mobile Technician performs most duties off-site. All duties are done with a high priority on safety. A Mobile Technician for TEC Equipment is responsible for delivering a customer experience that ensures TEC is truly recognized as our customers’ Best Business Partner.
Responsibilities
- The Mobile Technician position will diagnose problems and perform identified repairs and preventive maintenance services on different types of heavy-duty vehicles and trailers with minimal supervision through the use of their mobile service truck and tools
- Follows safe work practices and procedures, uses safety equipment when required, responds to suggestions for working safely and seeks assistance when necessary. Ensures proper safety, care, and maintenance of company vehicles assigned to the technician. Reports any damage to company or customer equipment or property immediately to supervisor
- Advises customer of needed service work, as well as suggests additional labor, parts and body shop sales whenever possible (i.e., Preventive Maintenance Inspections, related service work, etc.)
- Uses computer applications to note all aspects of services and repairs; Provide a full evaluation of unit condition and annotate observations in computer applications
- Coordinates customer repair orders
- Controls business expenses within the approved expense budget and is responsible for tooling and parts inventory on the service truck
- Attend training & departmental meetings and be willing to attend Trade Shows and Conferences if requested by management to stay up to date on company changes, industry trends and technological advances
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of the heavy-duty trucking industry and of all offerings of TEC in order to facilitate clear communication throughout the entire customer experience and provide customized business recommendations
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalentMinimum three years’ heavy duty truck repair experienceDemonstrated expertise in identifying parts and components of truck engines, transmissions, and braking mechanisms; proven ability to disassemble, work on, and reassemble diesel truck parts and machinery;Ability to identify mechanical and electronic problems, make repairs, and offer a proper maintenance strategyFamiliarity with electronic control systems and the appropriate tools needed to fix and maintain themIntermediate computer skills in order to accurately enter data into computer applications; intermediate keyboarding skills in order to enter descriptions of work done for customers’ documentationMust be self-motivated and capable of working with little supervisionMust have a commitment to customer satisfaction and perform quality repairsMust have excellent communication skills with a solutions oriented attitudeAbility to explain verbally in English and write clearly in English about work done on vehiclesAbility to work with a priority on safety at all times; Ability to follow instructions & checklists and adhere to branch’s standard operating proceduresAbility to acquire necessary tools to perform position responsibilitiesStrong active listening and problem solving skillsPostsecondary diesel engine repair training program completion preferredA / C, Brake and DOT Annual Inspector certifications required. Engine and Component certifications are a plus.Compensation
The base pay range for this position is $29.89 to $37.37.
