The HUS Director of Strategic Sourcing has two areas of responsibility across the four strategic business units of the Hubbell Utility Solutions Segment. This role will have the responsibility for the direct spend on chemical-based commodities, castings, fabrications, forgings, stampings, electronics, custom hardware, plating / finishing, processed plastic, rubber and glass across the four strategic business units (Transmission and Distribution, Grid Automation, Specialty Infrastructure and Integrated Substation Solutions. Secondly, this role will be responsible for developing and leading a supplier sole source de-risk strategy.
The Director, Sourcing leads technical sourcing discussions with Design Engineers to influence changes in critical dimensions and tolerances for manufacturability and cost reduction. This role drives design change conversations with suppliers based on deep manufacturing expertise in forging, sand casting, die casting, stamping, and machining processes, and collaborates with suppliers to implement manufacturing process changes aligned with lean & Six Sigma manufacturing principles. The Director applies Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Sourcing, and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to support value engineering initiatives. They demonstrate expertise in forging (closed die, open die, upset forging), sand casting and die casting, stamping (progressive, compound, deep draw), machining (conventional, CNC, high precision), and vertical / horizontal axis machining centers. The role includes assessing supplier capabilities and recommending process improvements to enhance yield, reduce cycle time, and lower cost. The Director drives supplier quality engineering audits with key suppliers to improve quality performance and ensure compliance with standards, conducts value engineering analysis to identify opportunities for cost reductions through design and process optimization, and maintains strong knowledge of supply market manufacturing engineering capabilities across global regions. They lead supplier change initiatives including tooling changes, manufacturing quality assurance, and changeover planning, execute key supplier transitions with precision, establishing ramp-up and ramp-down plans to ensure continuity and quality, and demonstrate critical thinking in addressing quality issues arising from supplier changes. The Director also assesses supplier capacity for critical components and manages strategic relationships with key suppliers.

A Day In The Life
Direct Spend : Direct day-to-day responsibility for managing and supporting the efforts of a Sourcing Manager responsible for their respective commodities. This will include working with the internal Strategic Business Unit stakeholders on productivity improvement strategies as well as the ongoing Supply Chain performance management and improvement.
Supplier Risk Mitigation : Develop and execution of risk reducing direct material sourcing strategies for Hubbell Utility Solutions. Primary focus will be the review of casting, forging, stamping, electronics and fiberglass product spend by region and determining action plans to reduce risk while considering total cost of ownership. In addition, this role will provide leadership to the Hubbell Utility Solutions and organization and coordinate with Hubbell Corporate Sourcing to develop best cost options for supply. Workload and strategy creation will be balanced across multiple Hubbell Utility Systems Business Units to create optimum risk reduction.
