APS DESIGN is looking for additional members to join our instructional design team as Learning Developers.

The Learning Developer role is designed for someone with some prior experience in the fields of instructional design or learning and development. Working under a Senior Instructional Designer, the Learning Developer participates in multiple stages of a project, works with content from a variety of clients and subject-matter experts, and produces custom learning assets.

This is a part-time position, paid by an hourly rate for hours worked. We are looking for individuals who can commit to an average of 1520 hours per week.

Job Summary

APS DESIGN seeks a Learning Developer to perform content development work as a member of our instructional design team. This is a part-time, hourly position with flexible hours. The ideal candidate will have some work experience in instructional design, learning and development, or a similar field. They will also have a working understanding of instructional design and provide work samples that demonstrate using a variety of learning development tools and strategies.

Common tasks will include, but are not limited to :

  • Working closely with Senior Instructional Designers and other Learning Developers to create and build targeted learning solutions (online learning activities, job aids, classroom experiences, etc.).
  • Participating in peer-reviews, quality checks, and beta-tests.
  • Estimating work times, supplying regular status updates, and adhering to project timelines.
  • Attending strategic meetings and working sessions with our internal team and clients, which may require availability during US business hours, depending on the project.

Basic Qualifications :

This role requires excellent written communication skills for writing and developing learning assets such as eLearning activities; printable job aids; scenarios and case studies; scripts / storyboards for instructional videos; and effective questions for knowledge checks, quizzes, and surveys. It also requires a basic working knowledge of learning theory and instructional design models for adult learners applied to a professional setting (Behaviorism, Cognitivism, Gagnes Events of Instruction, Kirkpatricks Levels of Evaluation, ADDIE, SAM, etc.).

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with eLearning software (e.g., Articulate Storyline / Rise, Captivate, Camtasia)
  • Dexterity with basic knowledge-sharing systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Dropbox)
  • A proven track record of successful collaboration
  • Bachelors degree + 2 years of experience in Instructional Design, or equivalent experience
  • Other Considerations :

  • Remote work - Our content development team is a fully remote workforce. This means that in addition to skills in instructional design and / or learning development, the APS Learning Developer must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and employ effective strategies for remote collaboration. Of course, this also means that reliable internet access is a must.
  • Multimedia experience - Experience designing or developing multimedia is highly valuable. Design skills would include creating scripts, storyboards, sketches, shot lists, and screenplays. Development skills would include producing and editing audio, photos, graphics, video, and / or animation using tools such as Adobe Suite, Canva, Vimeo, Dreamweaver, and Camtasia. Any of these skills would be a plus.
