The Senior Estimator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all estimating functions for area office operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead self-performed, hard bid, negotiated and conceptual estimating team.
- Manage the entire bid process including subcontractor solicitation and follow through, bid document management, and evaluation of subcontractor proposals / bids. Manage the post bid process through post bid reviews verifying scope of work and pricing within established parameters.
- Review and assist in preparation and culmination of project estimates and bids.
- Assign work to subordinates, direct and review their assignments and ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates prepared by subordinates.
- Assists in the preparation of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and relative cost estimates as required.
- Assist project and construction management team during pre- design and construction planning, project execution and upon completion.
- Meet with client management, staff, and supervisory personnel to introduce services, expertise and capabilities of the company.
- Accumulate, evaluate, and document historical cost data, current trends and construction procedures and methods in order to keep current with estimating standards and databases.
- Build relationships with local architects, engineers, and subcontractors to available as a resource and stay informed of upcoming projects.
- Notify management group of upcoming projects status and approximate timing for company proposal and bid submittals.
- Assist in the development of area marketing plans and goals, and in developing strategy for management client contacts regarding procurement of work, estimating services, contract negotiation, and future work potential.
- Participate in responses to RFP’s / RFQ’s as well as participate in presentations delivered to clients for project procurement.
- Assist clients and designers in systems selections, budgeting, cost containment, value engineering, etc.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy and client presentations as required.
- Manage subordinates assigned to estimating department and provide guidance and training as needed to support team members.
- Attend various networking / social events engage as an active member in industry associations / non-profit organizations, representing the company. Review and assist in preparation and culmination of project estimates and bids.
- Provides total commitment to continuous process improvement. Exercises good interpersonal skills by gladly assisting others to accomplish work of the organization, even it is outside the scope of regular duties.
- Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization.
- Meets schedules and deadlines, adheres to policies and procedures and maintains a good attendance / tardiness record.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Management Responsibilities
May require management of estimating team (Estimator I / II) and / or employees temporarily assigned to estimating department.
Knowledge / Skills / Ability

Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to write and interpret technical documents such as management plans, proposals, and complex estimates. Organizes and manages time, duties, and activities effectively.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or similar or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
7 years’ experience in commercial construction. Experience in estimating all construction disciplines required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
