Job Summary and Responsibilities

- Essential Functions : Demonstrates technical nursing skills (as documented in unit skills list). Utilizes the nursing process to provide safe therapeutic care for patients : Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation. Utilizes the nursing process to identify and meet educational and discharge needs of the patients. Provides patient care for a given patient assignment, either as a primary caregiver or by delegating and supervising patient care. Documentation of the nursing process as required by MMC standards. Reviews physician orders. Reports abnormal lab values and significant changes in patient findings. Identifies changes in patient's condition and inter-venes appropriately. Possesses knowledge of medications and demonstrates ability to dispense medications as per MMC standards. Demonstrates knowledge and safe operation of equipment pertinent to patient care and unit management. Demonstrates appropriate use, monitoring, and administration of IVs as per MMC standards. Communicates pertinent patient information to co-workers to ensure continuous quality of care by the health care team. Ensures endoscopic equipment is cleaned and sterilized according to policy and procedure. Reports needed repairs to GI Lab Supervisor or designee. Prepares for and assists with gastroenterology procedures performed in the GI Lab, Radiology Department, or, if necessary, Nursing Unit according to policy and procedure. Demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize efficiently. Shares knowledge and skills with co-workers, students, orientees, etc. Assumes responsibility for pursuing continued training and education. Actively participates in unit committees / task forces. Attends 80% of staff meetings and all mandatory meetings. Demonstrates flexibility with scheduling as evidenced by working extra hours in times of increased workload and / or illness or absence of co-worker. Takes call as required.
- Compliance with Policy and Procedures : Complies with safety, infection control, CHW Integrity Program, and other organizational policies. (90 day evals - department specific orientation checklists completed; annual evals - annual competency checklists completed) Complies with the organization's dress code. Arrives at work on time, as defined by the Timeliness and Attendance Policy. Attends work consistently, as defined by the Timeliness and Attendance Policy.
