Job Summary :
The Information Security Intern supports the Information Security team by assisting with basic tasks, gaining hands-on experience, and learning cybersecurity practices. The Information Security Intern will help monitor systems, document incidents, and participate in training and research activities under supervision.
The Information Security Intern plays a crucial role in shaping and safeguarding Tenaska's systems and data by gathering requirements, researching, implementing, and maintaining cutting-edge information security solutions. The Information Security Intern will be responsible for monitoring threats and ensuring compliance with security policies and standards.
Essential Job Functions :
Security Software Installation, Configuration, and Management - Install, configure, and support security software solutions across the organization, ensuring optimal performance and up-to-date protection against evolving threats.
Respond to Security Incidents and Alerts - Monitor security alerts in real-time, analyze incidents, and take immediate action to mitigate potential risks. Escalate complex issues to senior team members when necessary.
Collaborate on Security Issue Resolution - Work closely with other areas of Enterprise Technology to address security weaknesses and resolve vulnerabilities discovered during routine scans or audits.
Support Incident Response Procedures - Assist in the execution of incident response activities by following established protocols, helping to contain security incidents, and supporting recovery efforts to restore normal operations.
Participate in Security Assessments - Contribute to internal and external security audits, penetration testing, and risk assessments to evaluate and strengthen the organization’s security framework.
Foster Security Awareness - Assist in the development and delivery of security training programs for staff, focusing on educating employees on identifying phishing attacks, secure password practices, and other cybersecurity best practices.
Support Special Security Projects - Take on ad-hoc security tasks and assist with special projects as needed, contributing to continuous improvements in the organization’s security infrastructure and practices.
Education / Experience / Skills :
Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and interest in learning more.
Familiarity with operating systems, networking concepts, and common security tools is a plus.
Strong willingness to learn and take initiative.
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Attention to detail and eagerness to contribute.
