Transportation Technician II

The Utah Department of Transportation is looking for a hard working, hands-on individual to fill a Transportation Technician II position in Region One's Centerville Maintenance Station located at 1100 N 1250 W, Centerville, UT 84014. This is a very important position that is part of a team that oversees / is involved with the construction and maintenance of state roads and keeps Utah moving as safely and efficiently as possible. As a transportation technician in maintenance, you will learn about general maintenance activities related to state routes, highways, and other transportation infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include operating heavy machinery such as snowplows, salt spreaders, front-end loaders, and backhoes to maintain the roads, inspecting and testing materials used, and utilizing software to manage the Department's assets. After 18 months, each transportation technician is expected to cross-train in various construction areas.
The qualified candidate for this position is someone who has a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or is able to obtain one within 6 months of hire through Department-provided training and participate in the Region's snow plan. Is able and willing to report to the Region One Centerville Maintenance Station located at 1100 N 1250 W, Centerville, UT 84014 within a 30-minute response time. Is able and willing to provide 24-hour availability. Will self-provide a smartphone with data and will be eligible to receive a monthly taxable allowance to offset the cost of cell plans. Is able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Is reliable and can work well in a team environment. Is able and willing to complete continued education in the UDOT Transportation Technician Education Program. Obtain certifications required by the Region within the first year and keep those certifications current.
Preference may be given to applicants who have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. Transportation Education Program (TEP) Transportation Technician II Training. UDOT maintenance / construction experience. Professional work experience operating heavy equipment. Professional work experience with and / or knowledge of roadway maintenance / construction and snow removal.
