Location - Tyler, TX

Full Time - M-F 11am-7 : 30pm

JOB SUMMARY

Provides specialized expertise in the performance of immunohistochemical stains. Prepares pathology and laboratory specimens for microscopic evaluation by pathologists using microtomy, special staining, and histochemistry techniques.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and perform routine, special, and immunohistochemical staining procedures to produce slides for microscopic evaluation of tissues, fluids, and other anatomic pathology specimens.
  • Perform or assist with frozen section staining and fine needle aspiration procedures.
  • Operate laboratory equipment including microtomes, embedding stations, tissue processors, staining equipment, coverslippers, and other anatomic pathology instruments.
  • Maintain and calibrate instruments according to vendor recommendations; update policies and procedures as needed.
  • Perform and document quality control procedures in accordance with established policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Handle specimens safely after receiving specific training for infectious materials.
  • Follow established protocols for safety, infection control, security, compliance, and hazardous materials management.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Skills

  • Associate degree in science required; bachelors degree in science preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in pathology and immunohistochemistry required.
  • Experience

  • One to three years of experience in a pathology or immunohistochemistry setting required.
  • Licenses / Certifications

  • Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histologic Technician (HT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within one year of hire.
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    May work in hospital, clinic, research facility, laboratory, or other healthcare environments where diagnostic equipment, tools, computers, and other devices are in constant use.

    Must adhere to safety, security, and infection control policies and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools as required.
