Posting Information Posting Number FAE1940 Advertised Title Assistant Professor of Teaching / Coordinator Campus Location Main Campus (Memphis, TN) Position Number 020745 Category Full-Time Faculty Department Physics and Materials Science Position Summary The Department of Physics and Materials Science at the University of Memphis invites applications to fill a non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professor- Coordinator position to begin January 2, 2026. The Department offers BS and MS, and PhD degrees in Physics. This position is a full-time position with multiple duties. Responsibilities include teaching introductory physics classes as needed (at least two courses per semester), coordinating outreach activities to local schools and community, providing career advice and education for physics majors, and technical support for teaching and research labs, and maintenance and operation of machine shop. We seek candidates with a passion and the desire to contribute to the quality of our program and the success of our students. Qualified individuals with expertise in physics and related areas are encouraged to apply. Review of applications for this full-time position will start immediately. Minimum Position Qualifications

  • Technical support and Instrument shop.
  • Maintain and update chemical inventory, oversee lab safety, verify students and faculty for safety training, and ensure that safety guidelines are followed.
  • Coordinate maintenance, purchase, and operation of machinery and equipment.
  • Perform instrumental repair and assist in parts ordering and delivering; Maintain departmental inventory, technical library, and project files.
  • Aid student researchers in their projects, and design and machine parts for teaching and research.
  • Outreach
  • Coordinate and organize on- and off-campus outreach efforts which target diverse students, and deliver oral presentations and workshops for high school, middle school, and community groups.
  • Initiate and maintain positive relations with feeder high schools, local businesses, public agencies, and community groups that have an interest in partnering with the department.
  • Develop and maintain strong demonstration collection.
  • Career Education
  • Provide students with vocational counseling, assess their placement potential, and prepare them for interviews.
  • Maximize placement opportunities for all graduates, by suggesting additional courses, skills / knowledge to be added to the educational program of study.
  • Conduct job search workshops to teach graduates various techniques on how to secure employment.
  • Teaching
  • Teach entry level physics classes as needed.
  • Other duties as needed. Special Conditions Need to travel to local schools and community, can lift weight of 50 lbs.
