The Office of Academic Support (OAS) at the University of Florida (UF), within the Division of Undergraduate Affairs, is currently accepting applications for a full-time Academic Program Specialist (APS). This position is grant-funded and term-limited, with funding renewed on a five-year cycle through the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. The Academic Program Specialist reports to the Director of OAS and works closely with the UF Student Support Services (UFSSS) Assistant Director. The APS plays a critical role in advancing the mission, vision, and goals of the U.S. Department of Education, the UFSSS program, and OAS. The Academic Program Specialist supports the academic success, retention, and graduation of UFSSS participants—primarily first-generation and low-income students—through proactive academic advising, programming, and case management. The APS is also responsible for data collection, program coordination, assessment, and collaboration across campus support services. Key Responsibilities Student Support and Advising
- Provide holistic academic advising and individualized support to a caseload of approximately UFSSS participants.
- Monitor student progress, academic standing, and degree planning using a case management approach.
- Develop and implement academic intervention plans; refer students to appropriate campus resources.
- Maintain accurate records and update the UFSSS database in compliance with U.S. DOE regulations.
- Facilitate workshops and presentations related to academic skills, career planning, and personal development.
- Assist in the coordination of graduate / professional school visits, textbook lending library, and other support services.
- Supervise student workers, peer mentors, and volunteers. Program Coordination and Evaluation
- Coordinate program services, events, and activities aligned with grant goals and objectives.
- Support student recruitment, intake, orientation, and eligibility verification for the UFSSS program.
- Assist with the development of semester academic progress reports and contribute to the Annual Performance Report (APR) for the U.S. Department of Education.
- Help maintain an annual calendar of workshops, events, and support activities.
- Contribute to program planning, assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Special projects to meet mission and goals of the project as assigned by the Director.
- Oversee affiliated student groups or organizations such as the TRIO Honor Society. Curriculum and Instruction
- Assist in the development and instruction of first-year experience courses or other academic support courses as needed.
- Design and deliver workshops on study strategies, critical thinking, time management, and related topics. Outreach and Communication
- Serve as a liaison between the UFSSS program and campus offices, faculty, and student services.
- Provide information to prospective students, parents, faculty, and campus stakeholders regarding academic programs, financial aid, and career development.
- Contribute to writing and editing program proposals, grant documents, and reports. Expected Salary :

Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred :
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and three years of related experience, preferably working with first-generation, low-income, or underrepresented student populations.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-focused environment.Experience with academic advising, student support services, and retention initiatives.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.Understanding of student development theory and its practical application.Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or academic-related field.At least two years of professional experience in academic support or student success programming.Experience with federally funded TRIO programs or similar initiatives.Knowledge of program assessment, strategic planning, and evaluation tools.
