Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit stepdown position requiring a NE or compact RN license and at least 2 years of nursing experience.
Responsibilities
Work in a 55-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a trauma level 1 hospital settingProvides care primarily for adults, with rare cases of pediatric patients aged 15 and olderPatient ratios are 1 RN to 4 patients on both day and night shiftsCommon patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weaknessUtilizes telemetry, Alaris IV pumps, PCA pumps, mechanical lifts in every other room, and Epic EMRDay shifts are 12 hours, from 0630-1830Every other weekend requiredFloating may be required to medical-surgical units based on highest needResponsibilities include managing diverse stepdown patients, monitoring telemetry, administering drips such as cardizem and insulin, and assisting with pain management through PCA pumpsSupport staff includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, educators, care managers, social workers, dieticians, PT, and OTScrub color is navy blue for RNsArtificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departmentsPass / fail, open book skills exam administered during orientation with a minimum required passing score of 90%First day orientation includes 12 hours and completion of required onboarding tasksHourly rounding and high responsiveness to patient needs are expectedReturning travelers must not have been directly employed by the facility or CommonSpirit system in the past yearRequirements
Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)Minimum 2 years of RN experience requiredCurrent ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required (must be active, not pending)Experience with telemetry requiredEpic EMR experience preferredDriver’s license required for address verificationCandidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facilityCandidates may not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity, within the past yearBenefits
