Summary :
The effective Senior Accountant will be an integral member of the accounting team. You will need to be efficient, accurate and work under minimal supervision. The Senior Accountant will make meaningful contributions and is primarily responsible for payroll processing accounts payable, journal entries, reconciliations, and special projects. This position will report to the Assistant Controller.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Enters, maintains, and / or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employee’s hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, and other information.
- Ensure proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
- Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Assist accounts payable with data entry and problem resolution.
- Preparation of month end, quarter end and year end tasks, reconciliations and journal entries in payroll, accounts payable, and other assigned areas.
- Follow established policies and procedures and participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Prepare audit materials and interact with external auditors.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Work on special projects as required.
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
Two-year accounting degree or demonstrated experience.2-3 years of accounting experienceGood understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accountingProficient in Accounting financial software a plusMicrosoft Dynamics Business Central accounting software experience a plus.Previous work experience with Government contractors a strong plusProficient in Microsoft Office, especially ExcelDetail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skillsSelf-directed and able to work independently and collaborativelyStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to meet deadlinesPhysical Requirements :
