The Surgical Clinic (TSC) is a group of private practice surgeons representing many specialties of surgical practice to develop patient-focused, conveniently located places to give patients access to needed surgical procedures close to home. Since its founding in 1997, The Surgical Clinic has continued to attract talented surgeons, becoming one of Middle Tennessee's most respected practices.
TSC specializes in bariatric surgery, breast surgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, podiatry, surgical oncology surgery, vascular & endovascular surgery, and veins. In addition, TSC has established several Vascular Procedure Centers, TSC prosthetics, and accredited ultrasound labs.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Vascular Sonographer Float is a highly skilled professional who provides flexible and dependable vascular ultrasound services across 11 clinic locations throughout Middle Tennessee for our vascular surgeons. As a float team member, the Vascular Sonographer will rotate between multiple clinic locations based on staffing needs, maintaining a flexible schedule and the ability to adapt to varying workflows and environments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Performs a full range of non-invasive vascular ultrasound exams, including arterial, venous, carotid, and abdominal studies, following established protocols and diagnostic criteria to support accurate clinical diagnosis.
- Reviews and evaluates all images for completeness and diagnostic quality before presenting them to the interpreting physician. Ensures that significant findings are clearly documented and promptly communicated when necessary.
- Maintains ultrasound equipment in proper working condition and keeps work areas clean and organized.
- Monitors supply inventory and notifies the supervisor when items need to be replenished.
- Accurately enters vascular exam information into the billing system daily, applying correct CPT and ICD-10 codes. Ensures proper documentation to support insurance claims and timely reimbursement.
- Assists with maintaining IAC vascular laboratory accreditation by contributing to quality assurance, documentation updates, and the preparation of required case logs and reports.
- Ensures patient privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA. Adheres to OSHA standards for safety, infection control, and equipment use.
- Communicates effectively with physicians, medical assistants, and office staff to support coordinated and efficient patient care.
- Provides ultrasound coverage at clinic locations as assigned by the Vascular Lab Director, with flexibility for changes based on operational needs.
- Uses the electronic medical record (EMR) to document exam findings and retrieve relevant patient clinical history. Consults with referring providers to ensure appropriate exam performance.
- Adjusts ultrasound system settings to optimize image quality and diagnostic accuracy. Troubleshoots technical issues during scans as needed.
- Monitors report turnaround time and works with interpreting physicians to ensure exams are read and finalized promptly, especially in time-sensitive cases.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge in vascular ultrasound by completing CMEs, reading relevant literature, and attending professional conferences.
- Assists in training and orienting new staff members and students in lab protocols, equipment usage, and exam techniques.
- Performs additional work-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED is required.BLS is required.Willingness to travel and work at a different site on short notice as needed.Successful completion of a formal 2-4-year vascular technology training program is required. Candidate must be registry-eligible within 12 months.Vascular-specific experience is preferred.Must be responsible, self-motivated, and capable of working with limited supervision under guidelines set by the supervisor.Must have appropriate credential in vascular testing with active status. If not credentialed, must become credentialed within first six months of employment.
