Ocean Rescue Lifeguard
The Ocean Rescue Lifeguard position is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of beachgoers at the City of Boca Raton Ocean front public access areas. This role involves performing ocean rescues and providing assistance in line with established guidelines and policies. Working under immediate supervision, the Ocean Rescue Lifeguard helps maintain a safe environment by self-directed response immediately to emergencies and life-threatening events. Through these responsibilities, this position supports the City's commitment to public safety and enhances the experience of residents and visitors enjoying the beach.
YOU MUST ALSO POSSESS AND ATTACH COPIES OF THE FOLLOWING VALID CERTIFICATIONS AND SUBMIT WITH YOUR APPLICATION :
- CPR Certification (American Red Cross CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association CPR BLS Course "C")
- First Aid Certification (American Red Cross First Aid or American Heart Saver First Aid)
- Lifeguard Training Certification (American Red Cross Lifeguarding, YMCA Lifeguard Training, or Previous Ocean lifeguarding experience)
PRE-EMPLOYMENT TESTING INFORMATION : Qualified applicants will be contacted and invited via email and required to participate in pre-employment swim and rescue testing. Testing will be held at 8 : 00am on To Be Determined Date. You will be scheduled for this testing after it has been determined that the minimum qualifications and licenses requirements have been met. You will not be allowed to participate in the swim test if you have not been invited by Human Resources via email.
Essential Functions
Observes beach and ocean from tower for unusual and / or unsafe conditions and activities.Signals boaters, surfers, and jet skiers to stay out of safe swimming areas.Maintains an awareness of, prevents, and reacts to life-threatening situations.Patrols beach on foot, warns beach patrons of dangerous conditions and situations.Carries reserve rescue boards, oxygen resuscitators and first aid kits to and from the beach and in emergency response.Treats beach and park patrons for minor first-aid injuries.Depending upon area of assignment, may be required to support :
Works as rescue swimmer in the Intercoastal Water Way and connected canalsWorks at water and food in POD in post Storm EmergenciesClears storm debris on beach and in Parks in Post Storm RecoveryRelated tasks :
Monitors tide changes, water, and wind conditions and warns beach patron of changes.Informs beach patron of various City ordinances and enforces compliance.Responds to questions concerning ordinances and beach or ocean conditions.Opens and closes lifeguard towers; ensures equipment is present and in good working order.Assists with programs, classes, and special events.Participates in morning workout and physical fitness exercises and rescue drills.Performs related tasks as required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
