Job Description

The City of Chesapeake, Public Works Traffic Operations Division is currently seeking a dedicated team player to fill a FT Sign Fabricator II position within the Sign Shop. The Sign Shop focuses on the fabrication, layout, and production of regulatory traffic control signs, street signs, and special event signs in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position will also supervise one FT Sign Fabricator I position.

• The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to;
• Sign fabrication
• Preparing pavement markings
• Installation of other types of signs and traffic control devices
• Programming and setting up VMS (Variable Message Signs), speed radar trailers, and speed radar signs
• The position is also responsible for the designing, manufacturing, installing, repairing, inventorying material, and generating reports related to sign fabrication
• Must be able to work within a general outline and develop work methods under general supervision

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires high school diploma or GED / HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in drafting, computer graphics, or closely related fields.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : In addition to satisfying the vocational / education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license with a driving record in compliance with the . Special skills or equipment certification may be required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies. Preferred Qualifications
