Position Summary
This position works under supervision of the Senior Epidemiologist. Performs data management and analysis, prepares descriptive and analytical reports, provides data support and technical assistance to Epidemiology program staff, and fulfills internal and external data requests. The duties of this position are integral to meeting the tracking, surveillance, evaluation, and reporting objectives of the department.
Pay Grade : 52

Minimum Qualifications
100% -
1.Two (2) years of experience directly related to data analysis or data management in a health care agency or organization; AND
2.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public health, health informatics, statistics or related degree; OR
3.An equivalent combination of related education and / or experience.
4.PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND / OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.Educates and empowers the public though the dissemination of data in programs that create educational material, seek grant funding, and evaluate programmatic benchmarks within the Health Department.
2.Researches to keep abreast of health related literature and uses literature to determine appropriate ways to define and analyze health indicators, as well as to conduct literature reviews for special projects.
3.Links consumers to resources and information by providing heath related statistics to health department programs, community agencies, other health professionals, and public citizens.
4.Fulfills internal and external data requests and ensures that consumers receive requested data in a timely manner.
5. Conducts quality control regarding data entry for diseases reported in the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS).
6.Performs monthly import and export of provisional birth and death files from the Tennessee Department of Health and makes the data available to the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Team.
7.Collaborates with the Regional Epidemiologist to maintain the Sentinel Provider Network.
8.Develops new material and updates existing information on the county website.
9.Provides data support and technical assistance to epidemiology program staff including database design, data entry, data management, GIS mapping, and basic data analysis.
10. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

KSAs -
1.Knowledge of basic biostatistics and epidemiology principles.
2. Ability to use statistical software for data analysis; prefer experience with SAS / SPSS and ArcView GIS.
3.Ability to write technical reports.
4.Ability to communicate effectively with epidemiologists, public health professionals, and the general public both verbally and in writing.
5.Ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner.
6. Knowledge regarding database design, data management, writing queries, and data analysis.
7.Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Special Requirements
1.Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license or secure one by date of employment.
2.Must have access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
3.Must be available weekends and / or after regular work hours.
4. Must be available to travel to locations outside of the office.
