The Opportunity
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is the CEOs principal partner and the organizations operational engineowning day-to-day execution across programs and sites and ensuring that 82SA delivers high-quality compliant and mission-aligned services. Youll translate strategy into action strengthen systems develop leaders and align finance operations and programs to drive equitable outcomes for students and families.
The COO reports directly to the CEO and manages a cross-functional team of directors overseeing program operations finance HR and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Strategy
Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO on organizational vision growth and sustainability.Translate strategic priorities into operational plans with measurable goals and KPIs.Lead cross-functional coordination ensuring alignment among programs HR operations and finance.Program Oversight & Improvement
Oversee multi-site program operations for quality compliance safety and innovation.Supervise program directors; use data and best practices (including MTSS) for continuous improvement.Ensure program design aligns with mission fiscal reality and strategic priorities.People Culture & Development
Oversee HR in partnership with HR leadership : recruitment retention and engagement.Build leadership capacity through coaching feedback and clear performance management.Foster an inclusive strengths-based culture; steward equitable policies and pathways.Finance Risk & Compliance
Partner with the CEO on resource allocationStrengthen internal controls policies and infrastructure for long-term stability.Proactively identify and mitigate operational financial and program risks.Ensure compliance with all local state and federal regulations and all grant / contract requirements.Board Interface & Governance
Prepare materials dashboards and analyses to inform board decision-making.Participate in committees and facilitate effective communication between board and staff.Partnerships Growth & External Relations
Cultivate partnerships with NYCDOE community organizations funders and stakeholders.Coordinate contracts and compliance; represent 82SA in strategic forums and collaborations.Support resource development and community engagement.Data Evaluation & Project Management
Own data systems dashboards and reporting to drive timely evidence-based decisions.Lead cross-departmental project management to improve efficiency and impact.Champion a learning culture grounded in transparency and measurable results.30 / 60 / 90-Day Expectations
First 30 Days : Learn & Listen
Build relationships with staff board members and key partners.Conduct site visits to understand program operations and team culture.Review key policies contracts and budget frameworks.Establish trust and communication channels with site directors.First 60 Days : Stabilize & Align
Assess organizational systems for HR finance and program delivery.Identify operational bottlenecks and propose process improvements.Develop or refine KPIs for core functions and dashboard visibility.Begin shaping an internal leadership development plan.First 90 Days : Strengthen & Deliver
Present an operational improvement plan with clear KPI targets.Implement early wins in efficiency communication and compliance.Establish a cadence for cross-departmental accountability meetings.Set a roadmap for long-term growth and sustainability in alignment with CEO and Board.Sample Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Education & Experience
Masters degree in education Nonprofit Management Public Administration or related field.5 years of senior leadership in nonprofits or public educationideally in education youth development or social impact.Success overseeing complex multi-site operations and responsible organizational growth.Experience in HR leadership staff development and team management.Familiarity with fiscal management risk mitigation grants / contracts and board relations.NYCDOE experience or partnerships strongly preferred.Demonstrated use of data to shape strategy evaluate performance and drive improvement.Skills & Attributes
