Week 1 : Thu / Fri (12s) + Sat (8)

Week 2 : Thu (12), Fri (8), + one 8-hour day (Mon / Tue / Wed)

As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, the nurse contributes professional knowledge and clinical expertise in the delivery and management of care for patients and their families. Nurses maintain a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code of Ethics, the UnityPoint Health Philosophy of Nursing, and the Professional Nurse Practice Model, working collaboratively with all caregivers. This position supports the Surgical Services team as needed and otherwise functions as a key member of the Float Pool.

The Recovery Care Center (RCC) is a 10-bed unit where patients are closely monitored overnight following a variety of surgical procedures, including total joints, spine surgeries, mastectomies, thyroid procedures, and urological surgeries. The team ensures patients recover safely from anesthesia, manages post-operative pain, and monitors for complications. Once patients are stable and meet discharge criteria, staff provide detailed instructions to support a safe transition home—typically the following day. This department plays an essential role in bridging the gap between the operating room and home, ensuring a smooth and safe recovery experience.

Responsibilities

Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.

Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.

Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.

Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.

Qualifications

Education :

• Diploma from an RN program.

License(s) / Certification(s) :

Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in primary state.

Must apply within 90 days for licensure in secondary state.

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Must possess and maintain ACLS
