JOB SUMMARY

The Inventory Accountant & Analysis plays a critical role in overseeing inventory accounting, financial processes, optimizing operational costs, and ensuring accurate financial reporting within the distribution center. This role requires strong analytical skills, financial acumen, inventory accounting and the ability to collaborate with operating teams to drive profitability and efficiency.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES, JOB DUTIES

Inventory Accounting Oversight

  • Maintain accurate and timely accounting of inventory in a complex multi-distribution center operation
  • Reconcile inventory balances between ERP systems, physical stock, and financial statements
  • Prepare and review monthly inventory-related journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee all financial operations within the distribution center, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, providing insights on key performance indicators (KPIs) and cost trends
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, corporate policies, and financial regulations
  • Monitor and manage inventory accounting, cost allocations, and financial reconciliations.
  • Operational Efficiency & Cost Control

  • Partner with operations leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities and drive process
  • improvements.
  • Analyze labor costs, transportation expenses, and warehouse operational expenditures.
  • Develop strategies to enhance productivity while maintaining financial controls.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes for the distribution center.
  • Track actual financial performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
  • Support strategic decision-making by providing financial modeling and scenario planning.
  • Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure proper financial controls are in place to mitigate risks and prevent financial discrepancies.
  • Conduct audits and process reviews to enhance financial integrity.
  • Work closely with external auditors and compliance teams to support financial reviews. Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Collaborate with supply chain, logistics, and warehouse teams to align financial goals with operational strategies.
  • Act as the financial liaison between the distribution center and corporate finance teams.
  • Present financial insights to senior management and recommend actions for business growth.
  • WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • 5+ years of inventorying accounting and financial management experience, preferably in distribution, logistics, or supply chain industries.
  • Ability to prepare and review monthly inventory-related journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, cost accounting, and operational finance.
  • Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, AS400 or similar), and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities to work across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
