Position Summary :

The Associate Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation is the district’s senior academic leader and oversees, develops, and continuously improves all instructional programs, curriculum, professional learning, and educational services within Danbury Public Schools. This position drives the district’s vision for high-quality teaching and learning, ensuring that all students receive an exceptional education that prepares them for college, career, and civic life. In addition to overseeing academic programming, this role manages grants and compliance reporting, aligning resources to support strategic instructional goals. The Associate Superintendent will assist the superintendent in proactive planning for the district's future needs and lead special projects and collaborative initiatives that support the strategic positioning of the district. This role emphasizes creating equitable and innovative learning pathways, ensuring all students have access to guaranteed, high-quality curricular experiences and programming that meet their diverse needs and prepare them for future success. The Associate Superintendent directly supervises the K-12 Chief of Schools, the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, and the Chief of Professional Learning, Leadership Development, and Student Support, providing integrated leadership across all academic, instructional, and student support functions.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide visionary leadership in curriculum design, instructional practice, and professional learning to elevate student outcomes across all grade levels.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of rigorous, standards-aligned curricula across all content areas, ensuring coherence and consistency.
  • Lead district-wide instructional improvement efforts, promoting innovative teaching methods, data-driven decision-making, and effective pedagogy.
  • Collaborate with central office administrators, school leaders, principals, content experts, and teachers to develop and implement evidence-based instructional strategies that address diverse student needs.
  • Ensure alignment between instructional programs and district goals, including equity, inclusion, and academic excellence for all students.
  • Oversee the district’s grants portfolio, including federal, state, and private grants, ensuring compliance, effective use of funds, and timely reporting.
  • Work closely with the Chief Finance Officer and the grants management team to align financial resources with instructional priorities and goals.
  • Develop strong partnerships with universities, community organizations, and educational leaders to enhance program quality and innovation.
  • Use data and assessment results to inform decision-making, identify areas for growth, and monitor progress toward academic goals.
  • Provide ongoing professional development for district leaders, teachers, and instructional staff to build capacity and support continuous improvement.
  • Participate in district leadership meetings, advising the Superintendent on academic priorities, staffing and resource needs, and strategies to improve student achievement.
  • Represent the district at local, state, and national educational forums, advocating for innovative instructional practices and policies.
  • Ensure alignment between instructional systems and strategic initiatives, bridging the gap between research-based practices and classroom instruction.
  • Serve as a key driver in the transformation of learning within Danbury Public Schools, including leading the development and sustainability of the Academies of Danbury (wall-to-wall academy model) to ensure students are prepared for future workforce demands.
  • Develop and oversee school-related budgets and staffing plans for academic and instructional programs, ensuring compliance with graduation requirements and the effective delivery of student services.

Qualifications :

  • Experience as an Assistant Superintendent or similar executive-level role in a large school district preferred.
  • Advanced degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field (doctorate preferred). 092 Required, 093 Preferred
  • Extensive experience in K-12 education, including significant leadership in curriculum, instruction, and delivery of student services.
  • Demonstrated success in improving student outcomes and leading large-scale instructional initiatives.
  • Expertise in data analysis, strategic planning, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Strong understanding of grant management, including compliance, reporting, and financial oversight.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to equity, access, and excellence in education.
  • Available for frequent evening meetings, events, and occasional weekend events as required.
