Shipping / Receiving Clerk

Department : Production Control

Reports To : Production Control Manager

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Date : 12 / 2024

SUMMARY :

The Shipping / Receiving Clerk is responsible for the accurate and efficient handling of all shipping and receiving operations. This role includes managing incoming and outgoing shipments, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or materials, preparing shipping documents, assembling, addressing, and shipping merchandise or materials, arranging for the transportation of products and maintaining an organized warehouse.

The Shipping / Receiving Clerk is detail oriented, highly organized, and committed to ensuring timely and accurate order fulfillment.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES :

Receive, inspect, and verify the accuracy of incoming shipments against packing slips or invoices.

Prepare, pack, and label outbound shipments in accordance with company and customer requirements.

Maintain accurate records of shipping and receiving activities. Recording shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, as well as damages and discrepancies for reporting and accounting purposes.

Determine shipping methods for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.

Coordinating with carriers and logistics partners to schedule and track shipments.

Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.

Navigating through customer portals to access customers advanced shipping instructions.

Transfer parts between departments. Occasionally, fill-in for acting expeditor.

Receive, store, and issue materials, equipment, and other items from stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard.

Step-in for pick-up and delivery driver when needed.

Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other warehouse equipment as needed.

Must adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

None

QUALIFICATIONS :

Previous experience in shipping / receiving or warehouse operations preferred.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Basic computer skills, including proficiency in inventory and shipping software.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Ability to multi-task.

Knowledge of shipping methods and regulations.

Basic knowledge of Periodic Table (Chemistry).

Prior commercial driving experience (Preferred).

Clean non-CDL Drivers License (Required).

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

High School Diploma / GED.

1-2 years shipping experience.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE - Certificates & Licenses

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY :

The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

Forklift certification a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Ability to lift and move heavy packages (up to 50 lbs.).

Frequent standing, bending, and lifting required.

Ability to stand or walk 6 -10 hours a day.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Warehouse environment, primarily indoors with exposure to varying temperatures. There may be occasional exposure to outdoor environments during loading, unloading, or transporting materials. Noise levels can vary from quiet to moderately loud due to warehouse equipment and operations.
