POSITION SUMMARY :

This position will be a Safety and / or Industrial Hygiene (IH) resource at the Detroit Refinery. The Safety Professional is responsible for a wide range of safety activities including program development and interpretation field support conducting safety training auditing and corrective actions. The candidate should be familiar with OSHA standards. This position reports to the refinery Personal Safety Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Provides technical support of routine operations project work major maintenance or construction support and emergency response to ensure worker safety throughout the planning and execution phases of work.

2. Supports development maintenance and execution of safety programs for implementation in the field to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and conformance to MPC corporate standards.

3. Conducts auditing on safety programs to verify compliance and conformance with regulatory and MPC standards. This includes analyzing safety performance data to identify and report trends along with proposing recommendations to address areas of concern.

4. Leads and supports investigations for near-misses incidents and injuries to identify root causes and recommendations to prevent future incidents. Tracks recommendations to implementation to ensure completion.

5. Develops and presents training material related to a variety of safety topics in collaboration with Operations and Learning Development departments.

6. Provides subject matter expertise for assigned programs which may include providing input as a competent person for fall protection and excavation safety support during Life Critical work and input on other regulatory programs.

7. Develops safety related communications for inclusion into shift starter meetings safety meeting notices and bulletins.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

• High School diploma or GED with 2 years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree in HES related field with no relevant experience is required. (Education must be obtained / completed prior to the start date.)
• A valid drivers license is required.
• Bachelors degree in occupational safety and health related field is preferred.
• Certifications : CSP CIH is preferred.
• Competency in PowerBI survey software is preferred.
• Experience with VPP certification is preferred.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (MS Word Excel) and the ability to develop competence in additional software.
• 4years of refining experience with knowledge of relevant safety procedures is preferred.
• Strong critical thinking and communication skills.
