Position Summary

The ProtoTRAK Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating ProtoTRAK CNC / manual milling machines and lathes to manufacture custom plastic components. This role requires strong knowledge of machining processes for various plastic materials and a commitment to precision, quality, and safety in every production run.

What You Will Do

Program and operate ProtoTRAK milling machines and lathes to produce plastic components per technical drawings and job specifications.

Select appropriate tooling and machine settings based on plastic material properties and job requirements.

Perform first-piece inspections and monitor production to ensure compliance with specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.

Adjust feeds, speeds, and tooling to achieve optimal surface finish and dimensional accuracy for materials such as acrylic, PVC, and polycarbonate.

Conduct routine preventive maintenance including cleaning and lubrication to ensure optimal machine performance.

Maintain accurate documentation of production runs, tooling changes, and machine maintenance.

Collaborate with production and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and drive continuous improvement.

Follow all safety procedures to prevent personal injury and equipment or material damage.

What You Bring (Core Competencies)

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T symbols.

Proficiency with precision measuring tools and inspection equipment.

Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-volume manufacturing setting.

Strong work ethic, dependability, and punctuality.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CNC milling machines.

Ability to set up, operate, and make minor program edits on CNC equipment.

Basic familiarity with machining plastics and aluminum preferred.

Basic computer skills for documentation and data entry.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of a CNC machining certification program or formal apprenticeship.

5+ years of CNC milling experience, preferably in a job shop or custom manufacturing environment.

Experience producing high-precision parts with tight tolerances.

Familiarity with Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar CAM software.

Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and manufacturing best practices.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements (Disclosure)

This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, bend, twist, and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery noise, moving equipment, and various plastic materials.
