ELECTRICAL ENGINEER SUBSTATION DESIGN

Compensation : $90,000.00 $150,000.00 DOE

Overview :

Substation Design Engineer who can manage and design medium to high voltage substation projects, apply sound engineering principles and practices in project design, and make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods. Position requires the use of electrical theory and practices in the field.

Responsibilities :

• Under the direction of the department supervisor, accept all assigned projects, working as a fully competent lead engineer in all aspects of the project.
• Perform electrical engineering and design tasks including material specification, grounding touch and step potential, fault analysis, one line diagram development, protective relaying schemes, substation and switchyard configurations and layouts, bus assembly detailing, and bill of material development.
• Supervise, coordinate, and review work of designers and drafters assigned to project team. If a Licensed Professional Engineer, seals and signs all documentation produced by own work.
• Preparation of construction specifications, material specifications, engineering proposals, and development of project cost estimates. Provides procurement support and bid evaluation for purchase of substation system components.
• Oversee and review the design for compliance with engineering principles, industry codes and standards, customer requirements, and related specifications.
• Reviews material supplier drawings and submittals, and coordinates between vendor design and project drawings.
• Familiar with testing procedures and standards applicable to substation electrical systems and equipment. May be required to travel occasionally and perform on-site field support and investigation.
• Provide supervision and verification for check-out, start-up, and test reports of new or retrofitted substations.
