A GIS Technician supports senior technicians and analysts to complete processing tasks within a team-based environment. Working with data production in vector-based software platforms, this position assists in producing LiDAR-driven deliverables based on client requests. Technicians contribute to manual processing tasks with a strong attention to detail and efficiency. NV5 offers a fast-paced, production-oriented work environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and growth. The duties of the GIS Technician are performed at the Portland, OR office.
Responsibilities
- Apply a fundamental understanding of LiDAR technology and remote sensing data processing to support project tasks
- Consistently perform production tasks that meet acceptance criteria and productivity standards
- Manage personal tasking effectively by recognizing priorities, benchmarks, and deadlines
- Communicate proactively with task leads and the production team regarding task status, including risks, issues, and estimated completion times
- Maintain efficiency and accuracy while performing repetitive tasks
- Uphold a professional and positive demeanor, even in high-pressure situations
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Ensure processing and production sheets are accurately maintained and consistently updated
- Take ownership of task outputs and provide clear, timely communication with task leads and the production team
- Demonstrate strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to collaborate within a hybrid workforce
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, Geomatics, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceBasic understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data conceptsFamiliarity with ESRI software (., ArcGIS) or similar GIS or vector-based platformsAbility to interpret maps and spatial data with attention to accuracy and detailProficiency with common office software (., Microsoft Excel, Word)Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a teamWillingness to learn and follow established workflows and production standardsDemonstrated organizational skills to manage tasks and meet deadlinesPreferred Qualifications :
Experience working with LiDAR data or remote sensing datasetsExposure to Terra Solid products, MicroStation, or similar toolsCoursework or internship experience in spatial analysis or cartographyPlease be aware that some of our positions may require the ability to obtain a security clearance.
