Brain Health Unit – GNA Job Description
Unit Summary
The Brain Health Unit (BHU) is comprised of two 40-bed units and supported by a dedicated team of over 100 staff members. Our staff excel at building trust through strong communication, boundary setting, and confidentiality. Patients admitted to the BHU often present with both medical and psychiatric diagnoses. With an average length of stay of 23 days, our clinical team has the opportunity to assess patient behaviors and develop meaningful therapeutic relationships that empower patients to see themselves in a more positive way.
During their stay, patients receive support with medication management, rehabilitation services, and daily living activities. Staff members also encourage participation in group programs and one-on-one activities that foster engagement, recovery, and healing.
Job Summary
The Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) provides safe, age-appropriate care for patients in the Brain Health Unit. This includes assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), supporting patients’ physical and emotional well-being, and helping to maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment.
Requirements
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Current GNA licensure (C-GNA)
CPR / First Aid certification
Basic knowledge of medical equipment, including Hoyer lifts and specialty beds
Ability to use communication devices, Synquest, and basic computer systems
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Entry-level employment skills with a commitment to patient care
Preferred Qualifications
2–3 years of experience in Medical, Dementia, or Behavioral Health care settings
