Job Overview :

Support and consistently reinforce MGM Construction Group’s Core Values, is responsible for coordinating, leading and managing all necessary resources throughout the entire project, from start-up through closeout; ensures that both the owner’s and MGM’s expectations and budgetary guidelines are met; manages the project from beginning to end, including budget, costs, schedule, risk management, insurances, general work performance, quality, and overall progress against the plan.

Senior Estimator(s) perform day-to-day functions for the firm’s estimating activities including, but not limited to, serving as the estimating lead on various projects. Responsibilities includes pre-bid attendance as needed, developing conceptual budget / rough magnitude budgets, pricing strategies, hard bids, communicate and present to customers, bid management, vendor databases, cost databases, estimating software, and estimating best practices. The ideal candidate should have proven experience in construction estimating. The candidate should possess an understanding of contractual requirements, conceptual estimating, design drawings (P&ID, PFD, etc.) and project specifications. The candidate should be able to understand risk assessment analysis and have proven estimating experience in multiple markets and geographic locations.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities :

Preconstruction / Estimating :

  • Work and Lead with Preconstruction and Estimating Team in the development of project estimates, develop and reviews subcontractor scope of work, and constructability review comments.
  • Reviews and assists in the development of the Subcontractor Bid List.
  • Collaborate, reviews and assists in the development of the Project Logistics.
  • Collaborate, reviews and assists in the development of the Project Baseline Schedule
  • Steers the buyout process of the project in an expedited and proficient manner.
  • Makes certain the buyout schedule is established and maintained on a weekly basis.
  • Reviews and provides cost savings options. In addition, keep abreast of state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Evaluates project for possible hazards and risk with the Vice President of Safety and jointly develops a Risk Analysis and Safety Plan.
  • Ensures that all performance and payment bonds or letters of credit, if required, have been received.
  • Reviews the Request for Proposal (RFP), owner contract, subcontractor’s contract and contract documents to confirm the budget setup and project milestones are correct.
  • Develop ITBs (Invitations to Bid) and RFQs (Requests for Quotes) for subcontractors, ensuring the right subcontractors are selected and that adequate coverage is provided for all project scopes.
  • Regularly communicate with subcontractors about their interest and involvement in preconstruction and estimating efforts, following up diligently to review project scope and pricing prior to bid submission.
  • Monitor project updates, addenda, and RFIs (Requests for Information), ensuring timely communication and document updates through the estimating phase.
  • Proofread and assemble final bid forms and packages for submission to owners.
  • Update and manage subcontractor information within the company’s database.
  • Assist in identifying and prequalifying new subcontractors.
  • Support the marketing and business development teams in preparing and submitting proposal.
  • Conduct quantity survey and detailed pricing across all disciplines.
  • Create narratives that describe the quality and scope of cost estimates.
  • Lead conceptual cost model development and value engineering solutions.
  • Mentor developing members of Preconstruction and Estimating team on requirements of budget proposals, COB creation, and subcontractor evaluation.
  • Provide design assist / constructability reviews for the phase of design development and estimating.
  • Interpret project documents to prepare clear, complete and competitive estimates, general conditions, and bid.
  • Informs preconstruction staff of project requirements and owner directives, and develops a plan to meet stated goals.
  • Manages multiple projects
  • Value Engineer solutions to meet client’s budgetary
  • Attends all preconstruction meetings with the design team and client on behalf
  • Fills in design gaps with assumptions that align with the design intent of the project.
  • Responsible for tracking cost at various stages of the projects lifecycle.
  • Prepares project clarifications and bid assumptions for submission to Owner.
  • Develop department protocol for best estimating practices.
  • Must have excellent planning, organizational and coordinating skills.
  • Provide risk and cost comparison analysis on estimates.
  • Participate in local industry-related organizations and networking events such as ABC, CASF, ASPE etc.
  • Preconstruction / Estimating project turnover to the Operation Team.
  • Assist new subcontractors with the pre-qualification process, continuously verifying bid status throughout.
  • Prepare cost comparisons / reconcile with previous estimates.
  • Understand the full scope of the project through document review and asking questions of the design team and owner
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish a value for the work
  • Prepare an in-house budget, conceptual and GMP.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the subcontractor market. Initiate calls for subcontractor pricing and follow up, receive and process quotes and / or proposals.
  • Develop, lead and track lesson learns from the construction phase for scope coverage gap and cost overage.

Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
  • Progressive work experience with 7 + years of estimating on construction projects.
  • Knowledge / Skills Required :

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred (not required).

  • Thorough knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing and engineering principles and techniques, as well as accounting principles.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.
  • Ability to implement leading-edge technologies such as BIM and software alike.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Good client management skills and ability to build goodwill.
  • Capacity to motivate, lead and boost morale of the teams.
  • Effective time management skills and logical decision-making ability.
  • Excellent business judgment demonstrated by consistently achieving profitability objectives and strong project close-outs with client and subcontractor relationships in good standing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail evidenced by a strong command of all applicable contract and legal provisions. Job Description :
