DNV Energy Systems North America is seeking a growth-minded, entrepreneurial Principal Consultant (Director) of Data Center Advisory . This unique position is empowered to support our Customers engaged in planning for and building data centers. DNV's Energy Systems business area is an engineering- and market and policy-focused consultancy. This director would be responsible for evaluating, focusing, and expanding services generally aligned with core service offerings : market and policy studies; deployment of energy efficiency programs and utility implementation strategies; power systems advisory and grid studies; feasibility, siting, and permitting; M&A and transaction advisory; independent engineering and technical due diligence in support of project financing; owner's engineering advisory; and related services.
The ideal candidate for this position is someone with a strong intrapreneurial mindset and experience growing a cross-disciplinary new business in a highly matrixed organization. They will be empowered with resources, Customer connections, and a growing list of completed project qualifications, and will be backed by DNV’s industry-leading brand in technical advisory. This role is based at our DNV office in Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, Oakland, CA, San Diego, CA, Austin, TX, Houston, TX, Medford, MA, Arlington, VA, New York, NY, and Oak Brook, IL, presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location / site. What You’ll Do
- Develop unique technical solutions and offerings for data center advisory services in our core services areas of market and risk assessment, power systems advisory, and engineering technical due diligence.
- Drive business development efforts with new and existing Customers - solidify relationships with key customers, create new customer opportunities, and build and maintain a robust sales pipeline
- Lead opportunities development and technical consulting projects supporting Customers developing data centers and co-located generation facilities
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to supporting staff in a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment. Be willing to be curious and learn while leveraging experience to bring confidence, ownership and drive
- Provide or procure via partnerships, subject matter expertise on data center energy systems, performance optimization, PUE benchmarking, cooling strategies, and grid-interactive operations.
- Develop, mature, and refine our service offerings, leveraging DNV’s strong presence and brand as the premiere, trusted independent engineering and advisory firm in the energy infrastructure industry
- Develop and execute a one- and three-year Business Plan, including taking stock of the current market, opportunities, qualifications, and present to the SVP of Renewables and Power Grids
- Act as a liaison, influence, and consult between internal service lines, building rapport and alignment with internal teams already engaging in data center consulting
- Develop proposals, including feasibility studies, for new business opportunities
- Lead data center customers though contract negotiation and execution while staying in alignment with company requirements
- Identify, analyze and compare alternative opportunities for entering new markets and adopting new technologies
- Identify, investigate and evaluate strategic business alliances that are in line with market needs and DNV’s strategy
- Identify, evaluate, and manage any subcontractor relationships identified as necessary for development and growth of data center consulting
- Act as Project Manager or Project Sponsor on keystone or highlighted projects
- In consult with Marketing & Communications, developing a go-to-market strategy and champion activities in a strategic marketing and thought leadership campaign
- Manage relationships of data center customers in coordination with Key Accounts and other teams
- Maintain awareness of relevant regulations, industry trends, and standards (., ASHRAE 90.4, Title 24, Uptime Tier Standards, FERC rules,

The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. For the states of California, Washington, New York, Washington, ., Illinois, and Maryland only, the starting pay range for this role is $155,000 - $250,000.
