Our client is seeking a Assistant Controller to join our expanding finance team. This is a key growth position within our fully staffed accounting department (10 employees) and offers excellent opportunities for career advancement.

The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in financial operations, with a strong emphasis on certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance. This position requires expertise in construction accounting, job costing, and payroll oversight, as well as advanced Excel skills for reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and eager to contribute to a dynamic and growing company.

Oversee certified payroll reporting and ensure compliance with prevailing wage requirements.

Manage and provide back-up support for payroll operations, including prevailing wage and timekeeping (Dayforce).

Perform financial reporting and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.

Manage and back up accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including cash applications, adjustments, and credit management.

Handle job costing, cost accounting, and commission calculations, including advances, payouts, and accruals.

Prepare month-end journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.

Support budgeting and forecasting activities.

Utilize Q360 ERP and Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, CONCATENATE) for reporting, reconciliations, and analysis.

Collaborate with the Controller, Assistant Controller, and broader finance team to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

Minimum 5+ years of accounting / payroll experience in the construction industry.

Must have experience with certified payroll and prevailing wage projects.

Strong knowledge of job costing and construction accounting practices.

Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, CONCATENATE required).

Experience with ERP systems; Q360 ERP and Dayforce preferred.

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
