Job SummaryThe Flexible Resource Nurse (FLEX) will provide direct patient care. Delivers Nursing Care by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families / support person to understand patient conditions, medications, and self-care skills; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care Functions
- Assures quality care by adhering to professional standards, healthcare organization policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards
- Maintains cooperative relationships among healthcare team members
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records
- Protects healthcare organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions to appropriate healthcare team member
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
- Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention and management
- Provides patient care by reviewing providers orders; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families / support person; conferring with providers
- Resolves patient issues by conferring with parties involved
- Maintaining standards of professional nursing care
- Promotes a culture of safety by maintaining awareness of patient’s safety needs at all times; acts as a patient advocate by voicing concerns, using chain of command as necessary; adheres to safety practices i.e. safety huddles, bedside shift report
- Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family / support person; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables
- Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions and monitor patients for reactions or side effects
- Preparing patient for and assisting with exams as needed. Explaining procedures / treatment / discharge to patient and family members to alleviate apprehension and to verify understanding of procedure / discharge
- IV therapy competency including care for central lines
- Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations
- Appropriate supervision and delegation of duties to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel and other ancillary staff
- Assures compliance with Joint Commission standards regarding National Patient Safety Goals and other areas of accreditation
- Other specified duties as assigned for patient care and unit specific competencies
- Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission, and abide by the Values of the organization

Associate's Degree Nursing requiredBachelor's Degree Nursing preferredRN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And / Or Compact State Licensure State of Missouri Upon Hire requiredBLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire requiredACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire requiredCCRN - Critical Care Registered Nurse (Adult, Neonatal, and Pediatric Acute) Upon Hire preferredSTARR Certification Within 90 Days required
