We’re looking for a Business Programmer II to join our fast-paced, agile team. In this role, you’ll work closely with Product Owners and Business Analysts to build, test, and support the programs behind our insurance documents—ensuring they’re accurate, compliant, and reliable.

What You’ll Do

Develop and manage policy documents using OpenText Exstream

Translate contract language into system-ready code

Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a Scrum / Agile environment

Support multiple development teams and adapt to shifting priorities

Ensure high-quality, compliant document output for Voluntary Benefit

Job Specifications

Educational / Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in insurance operations, preferably with technical system exposure.
  • Technical Experience

  • Experience working with OpenText Exstream, or similar customer communication management tools preferred.
  • Understanding of mainframe (IMS, TSO, DB2 tables, read / update, JCL (read and minor changes))
  • PC skills required (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies.
  • Knowledge of business systems is preferred.
  • Business Experience

  • Voluntary Benefit Product Insurance knowledge is preferred.
  • Cross-functional general knowledge of the business or operational processes or in-depth knowledge of a business or operational process is preferred.

  • Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    Development (40%)

  • Design, code, and test document composition solutions in OpenText Exstream.
  • Maintain and modify existing document applications; make approved changes.
  • Creates functions or formulas for re-use as needed in the design of documents.
  • Write and maintain programming documentation.
  • Analysis (40%)

  • Review and audit contract output using visual and automated comparison tools.
  • Confirm accuracy of printed content versus expected business / legal documentation.
  • Optimize document logic in Exstream to support scalable and compliant output.
  • Perform audits on Mainframe.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and propose long-term solutions.
  • Consulting (15%)

  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to confirm understanding of business requirements relating to features to be delivered and to help the Business Analyst define requirements that can be delivered from a technical perspective.
  • Work closely with test engineers and developers to address errors and inefficiencies to establish the definition of done.
  • Communicates daily with the Scrum Master or Team Lead and the Agile team on progress made and planned progress for the coming day and reports any impediments that are blocking their progress.
  • Monitor changes throughout the project lifecycle and ensure stakeholder alignment.
  • Other (5%)

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the information being processed, stored or accessed.

    The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

    53,300.00-$100,700.00

    Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
