Shipfitter / Stick Welder - Newport News, VA
This position is located in Newport News, Virginia! Responsibilities include performing multi-pass tack welding using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process, operating burning and heating equipment, interpreting complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, comprehending fractional dimensions, assembling structural piece parts, working in physically demanding environments, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, and utilizing vibratory tools. Essential skills include single and multi-pass tack welding, burning using oxygen / propane burning torches, heating using oxygen / propane heating torches, reading and interpreting complex structural assembly drawings, and comprehending fractional dimensions.

Work environment : Work in the largest shipyard in the world, located in Southeast Virginia. The environment varies with hot and muggy summers and cool winters. Work on Navy vessels or in a shop setting, with shifts available around the clock : 1st shift (7am-3 : 30pm), 2nd shift (3 : 30pm-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am).
Job type and location : This is a contract position based out of Jacksonville, FL. The pay range for this position is $45.00 / hr.
