The City of Oxnard's Public Works Department, Facilities Division, is seeking an Electrician to join the team. The ideal candidate has excellent technical, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

What You'll Do :

• Preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical systems
• Perform scheduled and routine inspections, testing, cleaning, repairs, overhauls, modification, installation, and replacement of defective electrical systems
• Install and repair electrical equipment and fixtures
• Use testing devices to identify and report electrical problems
• Install and troubleshoot motors and motor control systems
• Install conduit and pull wire
• Install, troubleshoot, and service VFDs, transfer switches, and switch gears
• Work with voltage from 120v to 480v AC; voltages above 480v maintained by others
• Identify electrical hazards and make proper repairs
• Prepare and modify digital documentation
• Assist in maintaining electrical equipment inventory
• Coordinate maintenance activities with the operations group
• Use asset management software
• Work with low voltage systems; access controls, automation, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Distinguishing Characteristics : This is a stand-alone classification in the Trades job family.

Supervision Exercised / Supervision Received : Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.

Work Schedule : The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 8 : 00am to 6 : 00pm and alternating Fridays 8 : 00am to 5 : 00pm. In addition, this position will be required to perform after hours on call and respond to after hours' emergencies. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs.

There is currently one (1) full-time vacancy within the Facilities Division. Selected candidate(s) must pass a thorough background investigation. Positions in this classification are represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE). For most positions, the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office / Google) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work. Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions. Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis. This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
