Senior Scientific Editor, Cell Reports

Are you an experienced Scientific Editor? Would you love to support a premium Open Access journal? We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic senior scientific editor to join the Cell Reports editorial team. Cell Reports is a premium open access journal at Cell Press, publishing cutting edge and impactful work across all of biology. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any field that Cell Reports publishes. Previous editorial experience is an advantage but is not required. Cell Reports values having a diverse editorial team, and applications from those from minority groups currently under-represented in science are warmly welcomed. About the Role

The Senior Scientific Editor will be closely involved in all editorial aspects of the journal. You will take ownership of overseeing submissions and peer review to ensure we publish high-quality content. You will build relationships with experts in the community to disseminate and discuss their research. You will be a mentor for other members of the Cell Reports team. This is a full-time editorial position. It can be based in proximity to our offices in Cambridge, MA United States, London, or Shanghai, China. The benefits listed are for US-based applicants in proximity to our Cambridge, MA United States office.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the peer review and publication process of a rapidly growing open access journal
  • Working with the team of editors to build and develop content
  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond
  • Engaging with the scientific community in their labs and at conferences. Learning about scientific developments, recruiting papers, and establishing relationships.
  • Advocating for science, provide thought leadership, and influence the practice and direction of science and scientific communication.

Requirements

  • Have PhD or other relevant doctoral degree.
  • Display broad scientific interests and a passion for helping scientists publish their results
  • Have exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize, focus, and achieve desired goals.
  • Showcase creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve.
  • Are researcher focused and attentive with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Have excellent interactive, team working skills as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Have good understanding of digital communication, publishing trends and open access publishing.
  • Able and willing to travel for business needs such as conferences and institute visits.
  • Display exceptional interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job. This includes being a team player able to work as part of a group of editors.
