This recruitment is restricted to current exempt employees

of the City and County of San Francisco, San Francisco Unified School District, or San Francisco City College, working within the 5320 Illustrator And Art Designer classification and only those who meet this requirement will be placed on the eligible list for consideration of future permanent position.

Under general supervision, performs specialized manual and / or desktop-published illustrating and art work in connection with the preparation of presentation drawings, publications, public information releases and similar media; and performs related duties as required.

MAJOR, IMPORTANT, AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code / class. They are not intended to be an inclusive list.

1. Prepares a wide variety of graphs, charts and maps to illustrate and provide comparative information on proposed projects and projects under construction; prepares and designs the format, page layouts and typography and executes various types of plain and color art work for a variety of publications.

2. Paints and draws illustrations for use of publicity releases; prepares a variety of illustrations for inclusion in departmental reports.

3. Does artistic hand lettering and embossing; arranges displays of photographs and drawings for publicity; produces desktop lettering and designs; designs and executes exhibit panels of special projects.

4. May be assigned to drafting work in connection with the preparation of construction and landscape drawings and plans.

5. May set type for small printing press or be assigned to drafting and map work.

6. Takes a variety of photographs to illustrate various projects in reports and displays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a Current Exempt Employee in Class 5320 who has worked at least 2,080 hours in category 16, 17 or 18 with no break in service.

Special Requirements including specialized knowledge, abilities, education, experience, or license may be established for individual positions.

Ranking Based on Verified Exempt In-Class Service Duration

Qualified applicants will be ranked on the eligible list based on the length of their Exempt City service in the 5320 Illustrator And Art Designer class, along with any additional qualifying points (e.g., promotive status), as outlined in Civil Service Commission (CSC) rules. All work history will be verified using official City records, which will serve as the final authority in determining qualifying service.

NOTE :

Eligible List / Score Report

A confidential eligible list of qualifying candidates will be created and used for certification purposes only. A score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list / score report resulting from this selection process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., because of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.

Duration of Eligible List

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be six (6) months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.

Certification

The certification rule for this selection process will be "Rule of the List".
