Addison Smith Mechanical Contractor, Inc. is seeking an experienced
- Commercial Sheet Metal Technician III
- to lead and perform advanced HVAC sheet metal installations on commercial construction projects. This senior-level role is responsible for system layout, duct fabrication and installation, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring high-quality, safe, and code-compliant work. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a commitment to craftsmanship and safety.
- Key Responsibilities
- Install commercial HVAC sheet metal duct systems including rectangular, round, and spiral ductwork in facilities such as schools, hospitals, offices, and retail buildings.
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical plans, shop drawings, and SMACNA specifications to perform accurate layout and installation.
- Lead small crews and coordinate daily tasks with the site foreman or superintendent to maintain productivity and meet project schedules.
- Set equipment and install supports, hangers, and accessories according to project plans and industry standards.
- Ensure all work is performed safely, adhering to OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Assist with managing on-site material inventory, verifying deliveries, and communicating material needs to project leadership.
- Collaborate with other trades and subcontractors to prevent conflicts and support smooth workflow.
- Train, mentor, and support the development of Sheet Metal Tech I & II team members and apprentices.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure installations meet project specifications and code requirements.
- Assist with system start-up, testing, and completion of final punch list items.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of commercial HVAC duct systems, fabrication practices, and installation techniques.
- Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to supervise and guide small crews.
- Proficiency in reading mechanical plans, detail drawings, schedules, and cut sheets.
- Working knowledge of SMACNA standards, local mechanical codes, and basic air balancing concepts.
- Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, lifts, and layout equipment.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality craftsmanship.
- Education & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a sheet metal apprenticeship program or equivalent on-the-job training preferred.
- 7–10 years of commercial sheet metal experience
- , including at least
- 2 years in a lead or senior installer role.
- Certifications & Licenses
- OSHA 10 required
- OSHA 30 preferred
