The Finance Planner independently analyzes proposed future state department projections to support department leadership in making funding and / or staffing decisions. This position provides their expert advice to Department leadership with developing, implementing, and overseeing a robust financial strategic plan for all department funding revenues and expenditures. This position holds substantial responsibility for providing accurate professional guidance to department leadership, impacting the allocation of funds and resources within the department. This position will also develop tools and projections that will support the ECE Department Administrator and ECE Chair with Workday Adaptive Planning biennium close, and overall department strategic planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

Financial Program Management - 45%

Collaborate with the ECE Administrator to complete statistical and data analysis of department finances to recommend development, monitoring and management of the department's annual and long-term budget plans.

Oversee the development and full lifecycle management of the ECE Department Program budgets including allocations to various teams (undergrad advising, computing, etc) as well as budgets that are allocated to specific department projects or initiatives.

Advise team leads and support initiative project managers with budget / worktag monitoring and forecasting and financial best practices.

Ensure alignment with university policies and strategic goals.

Create shadow spreadsheets and / or leverage Workday reports to meet the reporting needs of the department and align financial reports with the College of Engineering Dean's Office.

Coordinate with the ECE Finance Manager to overhaul the department forecasting and projection tools.

Leverage existing reporting features from Workday, propose opportunities for improving forecasts between the department and the dean's office finance team.

Conduct financial forecasting to anticipate future financial needs and challenges.

Financial Reporting & Compliance - 40%

Prepare and present financial reports to the Department Administrator, Finance Manager, and Department Chair. Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data and department spending trends.

Monitor and control departmental expenditures. Use independent judgment to implement cost-saving measures where appropriate. Ensure expenditures meet compliance standards.

Verify all planned financial activities comply with university policies, state and federal regulations, and accounting standards. Reconcile expenditures and research questions regarding the use of department funds as needed.

Forecasting & Strategic Planning - 10%

Develop strategies to address potential financial risks.

Collaborate with department leadership to develop long-term financial plans.

Support strategic initiatives with financial analysis and recommendations.

Develop tools and projections to support biennium close and strategic planning in Workday Adaptive Planning.

Other Duties as assigned - 5%

Support Department Procard and Central Travel Account (CTA) oversight.

Serve as back-up for purchasing and payroll auditing.

Perform other financial projects and duties to support the ongoing mission and strategic plans of the department, as requested by Administrator.

WORKING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

This position is primarily office-based, with a hybrid work schedule available depending on departmental needs and university policy.

Work is performed in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment requiring attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Occasional extended hours may be required during fiscal year-end, biennium close, or major planning cycles.

Regular interaction with department leadership, administrative staff, and university finance personnel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting

At least two years of professional experience managing budgets, financial planning, accounting, or related position

Equivalent education / experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license / certification / registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

High level of proficiency using Microsoft Excel

Experience managing datasets, analyzing expenditure trends, and creating budget forecasts

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

More than two years of professional experience managing budgets, financial planning, accounting, or related position

Experience working in a non-profit or higher education setting

Experience using Workday software / systems

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum : $72,000.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum : $84,000.00 annual
