Description

Alta Planning + Design is seeking a full-time Project Accountant II in our Portland, OR office to support project managers and drive financial success across our active transportation projects. This role is responsible for overseeing the financial management of projects while supporting office team members to manage and complete initiatives that connect people to places while advancing safety and environmental resilience.

Day to Day

Financial Management & Project Oversight :

  • Oversee financial aspects of projects including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Ensure cost and revenues are accurately reported for all projects at month-end
  • Assist with project setup, accounting, and project-related reporting

Budget & Cost Management :

  • Assist in preparation of project budgets aligned with project goals and objectives
  • Monitor and track project costs, ensuring they stay within budget and identify variances
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Billing Specialists, and other project accountants to maintain budgets
  • Reporting & Analysis :

  • Prepare and present financial reports to project managers and stakeholders with insights and recommendations
  • Support and review project proposals
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all assigned projects
  • Compliance & Risk Management :

  • Ensure all financial activities comply with company policies, procedures, and relevant regulations
  • Lead and support internal and external audits with accurate documentation
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with projects
  • Invoicing & Client Management :

  • Manage project invoicing, ensuring timely and accurate billing to clients
  • Approve subcontractor invoices and consolidate invoicing packets
  • Maintain project folders with focus on accuracy and completeness of documentation
  • Collaboration :

  • Work closely with project managers, finance team, and stakeholders to ensure project financial success
  • Attend project-related meetings to discuss project status and financial performance
  • Qualifications

    Required

    This position requires a combination of skills, experience and education including, but not limited to :

  • Experience : 5+ years in project accounting or similar role
  • Software : Proficiency in Deltek Vision or VantagePoint (required)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Environment : Background in deadline-driven, project-based environment
  • Skills : Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Communication : Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organization : Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Work Style : Ability to work independently with little supervision and as part of a team
  • Multi-tasking : Strong initiative and ability to manage competing priorities and multiple simultaneous tasks
  • There are a number of additional skills, experience, and education that would be beneficial to this position including, but not limited to :

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience in engineering, construction, or architecture (A / E / C) industries
  • State DOT Experience
  • Experience with automated project management applications (Microsoft Project)
  • Pursuit of CAPM or PMP

    Compensation

    The pay range for this job in Portland is $65,000-$75,000 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
