Job Summary
Troubleshoots, electrical equipment, and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and effect required maintenance, repairs, or replacement requirements. Performs maintenance and repair of generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm, and lighting circuits. Conducts insulation resistance measurements of electrical cables to determine condition and effects repairs or replacements as required. Supervises and participates in the installation and / or alteration of electrical systems aboard ships. Maintains adequate inventories of electrical spare parts and requisitions replacements as required. Maintains electrical system maintenance histories notating date, and extent of repairs and / or alterations.
Responsibilities :
Repair or replace wiring equipment or fixtures, using hand tools or power toolsExamine electrical system of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, like ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to confirm compatibility and safety of systemUse different types of tools or equipment, like power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, like oscilloscopes, ammeters, or check lampsWork from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to put in, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixturesDiagnose faulty systems, apparatus, or parts, using equipment and hand tools to find the reason for a breakdown and correct the problemInspect electrical systems, equipment, or parts to spot hazards, defects, or the necessity for adjustment or repair, and to confirm compliance with codesWork on the installation of ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, like motorsConstruct and fabricate elements, using hand tools and specifications
Direct or train other employees to put in, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixturesWork on installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of marine electrical (AC / DC) and electronic systems for powerboats and sailboatsMust possess the ability to work in any condition like bending, twisting, and standing to execute normal job dutiesExperience with the following systems preferred but not essential :HVAC ducting, piping etc
