Description :
You are being submitted to a position in a commonly impacted area for hurricanes.
The hurricane season will run from June 1 to November 30, but storms have been known to occur outside of that window.
Upon accepting an assignment and starting your role, your unit manager may assign you to an "Emergency Team."
There will be an expectation to stay at the facility until after the storm passes or be part of the relief team.
Specific details pertaining to pay will be shared during each storm, as impacts vary.
By signing your contract for this position, you accept the above and will report as assigned by your immediate unit manager if a storm occurs.
You should consider this assignment only if you are comfortable with the above.
The unit will accommodate first-time travelers with 2 years of experience.
Patient diagnoses may include chest pain, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmias, diabetes mellitus, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, renal failure, pulmonary embolism, congestive heart failure, gastrointestinal bleed, and syncope.
There is always potential for med-surg overflow.
Special procedures and unit details include pre / post-cath lab care, managing PPM / AICD, ablations, and vascular surgeries.
You will be involved in the titration of drips, such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, and heparin.
Sheath removal may occur at the bedside.
Every other holiday, you may be pulled to other inpatient units.
Specific scheduling requests cannot be guaranteed.
Special equipment used includes telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, PCA, epidurals, and wound vacs.
Interdisciplinary support is available from physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and unit secretaries.
Daily patient census is estimated to be 24 with a patient ratio of 6 : 1.
Patients include adults and geriatrics.
